Quack yarns

Fiona is the dyer behind Quack Yarn and, although originally from Scotland, she now lives in Yorkshire and dyes in her home studio aka garage in the city of York. Like many other dyers, she is an avid knitter and crocheter who became curious enough to try dyeing. Quite successfully I would say! When the Quack Yarn online shop opened in September 2020 most of the dyeing happened when Fiona’s children were asleep. Now that the business is more established and both children are at school, Fiona can now work during daylight hours!

Almost all of her yarn is dyed to order so that she can keep a larger number of colourways available to you. She loves creating new colourways using inspiration from the towns and cities where she has lived, nature, children’s TV and most recently a collection inspired by Star Wars planets (I think you know nerdy me approves of this!). Strong, saturated colours (both bright and moody) are her speciality, but she also dyes more subtle colour blends. You might even find the odd neutral if you look carefully!

Fiona always keeps your different yarn crafting needs in mind. So whether you love or loathe nylon in your hand dyed yarn, you’ll find a range of yarn bases and weights from 4ply to chunky. Merino/nylon blends for the sock knitter and 100% Blue Faced Leicester for the British yarn lover are amongst her most popular yarns!

Quack Yarn has a busy autumn coming up. If you want to see her work in person, Fiona at The Scottish Yarn Festival and Yarndale in September, Glasgow School of Yarn in October, and Yorkshire Yarn Fest in November. Her Advents will also be available in her
Etsy shop during August and September. So why not give Quack Yarn a follow on Instagram to get more details about where to find her work and see what squishy goodness Fiona has to offer!
