The dyer and owner behind Skein and the Stitch is Jess, who is actually quite local to me.

She’s passionate about crafting beautiful hand dyed yarn and useful notions for makers, crafters, and fibre artists. The goal of her business is to provide quality products that bring you joy and enhance your creative projects. Skein and the Stitch specialises in carrying a full range of luxury yarn bases in a range of tasteful and modern colourways, suitable for any of your creative projects. In addition to hand dyed yarn, Jess also curates genuine gemstone stitch markers and makes hand poured soy wax candles to add a sumptuous ambiance to your crafting sessions.

She started the business the during lockdown of 2020. At the time, she was recovering from a really rough postpartum period and was looking to get back into an academic career. But the pandemic happened, and she decided to experiment with yarn as a way to stave off boredom and everything unexpectedly took off! She now runs her business out of a home studio that she shares with her husband, two children, and their rescue husky (all the best people have one of those!).
