Going away to university or college can be daunting. Why not wrap yourself or your loved ones in the comforting feel of home with a cosy handmade scarf?

Many moons ago, I knitted feverishly to ensure I had stylish knits for university. I recall hearing stories in the halls about the cosy jumper their mum had knitted them or the unexpected parcels containing scarf and hat sets still warm from their nan's needles!

And as I began planning one of my autumn pattern collections, I wanted to capture that comforting feeling of wearing something handmade that ties us to our home and family. My College Collection therefore contains cosy aran weight college-style scarf and hat patterns that draw inspiration from universities that are connected to me and my family.

The first design in my College Collection is Oxford, a simple elegant design that utilizes the Comma stitch (a little pun for all you grammar fans!) to create the repeating textured motif. It's surprisingly easy and relaxing to knit and it’s the kind of scarf looks great on anyone. If you're not a fan of fringing, the scarf also looks amazing without it, although you may want to knit it a little longer if you don't add the fringe detail. And don't forget that if you want to complete the look, you can also knit the scarf's matching hat pattern: Oxford Beanie!

But whether you knit this accessory for someone you know who is off to university or college, another loved one or just for yourself, this scarf is a fabulous addition to any wardrobe.
